Closet love

Another favorite thing about this house is definitely this closet

Which is just off the kitchen a bit, but can be 100 percent dedicated to all my food storage and canning--which, let's be honest, is the best kind of food storage. And I'm happy to say that we moved and were mostly unpacked just in time to pick lots of produce for canning and the new kitchen was just right for the job.

For the first time in all my life as a gardener I finally grew almost enough tomatoes for my salsa this year. I'll say about 40 percent mine and 60 percent picked from local farms.

I love it!! I need to learn from you. I really love canned food but I always feel to lazy or something to can. Maybe I can learn something from your fire you seem to have every year at canning time.:)

So glad you're loving the new digs. And I'm jealous about the tomatoes. I don't know what happened up here, but mine succumbed to the tomato shadow plague. I think it was just too rainy this year.

Hi Kristine - just spying on you again. Congrats on the new place. I have had fun canning this summer too - although I don't have an awesome closet - my food is stored all over the house. Your boys are cuties! Desiree

Do you have any good sites for canning or food storage, just starting out and need some tutorials.

Summer--a great site for canning is http://anoregoncottage.com she has a whole archive full of canning recipes and tips. and as far as food storage, i'm also just trying to get started, so i don't have much to offer there. good luck!
